Find the latest news for a particular stock or sector
You can search for specific articles in exactly the same way as you would search for web content on Google. Just type your search criteria into The River search text box, (as shown below); click the "search" button and all articles and posts relating to that search criteria will be listed.
The search text is not case sensitive.
General search
To search for news and articles relating to a specific company, type that company's name into the search text box, and click the "search" button.
For example, to find all articles relating to Microsoft, type:
This will bring up all articles, posts, videos and comments containing or tagged with the word "Microsoft".
Expand your search
To expand your search on a specific company, you might also wish to add the stock's ticker symbol to your search, eg microsoft MSFT:
This will bring up all articles, posts, videos and comments containing either the word "Microsoft" or the "MSFT" ticker symbol.
Refine your search
You can refine your search. If you are looking just for news related to Microsoft's earnings, you would type:
By preceeding both words with the "+" sign, the search results will only include those articles, posts, videos and comments which contain both the word "Microsoft" and the word "earnings".
Search for a specific phrase
To search for a specific phrase or set of words in a specific order, put them in quotation marks.
You might use this if you are searching for a company with a name made of several words, for example "Royal Bank of Scotland".
If you were to type:
This will return all articles containing either the word "Royal" or "Bank" or "Of" or "Scotland" ... which would give you a lot of un-related articles.
However, if you use quotation marks:
the system will only return those articles that contain an exact match to the phrase "Royal Bank of Scotland".
