You can use timetotrade to set up MACD Alerts to let you know when your investment conditions are met.

If you're away from your computer, timetotrade will watch the markets for you. As soon as your alert conditions are met this will trigger an email or SMS text alert to be sent to your pc or mobile phone.

Create and customise your own alerts using price and technical indicator triggers:

Simple, intuitive "point and click" system - no programming required.

You can even build compound multi-condition Alerts which will be triggered if a series of events occurs, for example you could create an alert on a stock that will trigger if: the MACD rises above zero and then crosses over; or the stochastic rises above 80 and the MACD falls below the smoothed MACD; or the RSI of a stock was to fall below 70, followed by a price pull back and a stochastic crossover.

timetotrade watches the markets, so you don't have to. Use timetotrade to avoid missing trading opportunities, regardless of how busy you are ...when it's time to trade we'll let you know!

How to Set Up MACD Alerts

To create an alert, go to the timetotrade CHARTS page and enter the ticker symbol for the stock or currency pair that you wish to follow. This will take you to the chart / alert creation page. The system is defaulted to show a 6 month price chart, based on 1 day interval period with the MACD (10,35, 5) technical chart below, however once you have set up your own timetotrade account you can customise your own preferred default chart settings, interval periods and parameters to suit your personal investment strategies.

On timetotrade's MACD chart, the MACD is represented by a dark green line and the Smoothed MACD by a red line.

To the right hand side of timetotrade's price and technical indicator charts are sets of "Alert Trigger Buttons".

To create a MACD alert, just click on the Alert Trigger Buttons to the right hand side of the MACD chart, as illustrated in the screen shot below:

There are no programming languages to learn, no macros or complex forumulas for you to write. Just click a button, enter your parameters, "activate", and your alert is created. Simple!

There are six types of MACD Alert Triggers available on the timetotrade system:

Adjusting the Parameters

The chart parameters and interval period displayed on the chart as you click the "Alert Trigger" buttons to create your alert are the same parameters and interval period that will be used to check when your alert conditions are met.

If you are looking at a MACD (10,35,5) chart on a 1 day interval period when you are creating your alert, then timetotrade will check to see if your MACD (10,35,5) alert conditions are met at the end of each trading day. If you are looking at a MACD (12, 26, 9) chart on a 1 minute interval period, then timetotrade will check to see if your MACD (12,26, 9) alert conditions are met every minute - at the end of each minute interval period.

You can adjust the MACD parameter and interval values to find the best fit between price movement and the MACD indicator to suit.

image: Create Alert 2.png

To change the parameters enter your preferred values into the parameter text boxes, then press the 'refresh' button to update the charts. To save your changes as your default chart setting, click on the 'save' button to the right hand side of the chart "settings" menu.

Multi-Condition Alerts

timetotrade can also be used to create alerts on Price and Volume as well as the technical indicators: Stochastic, RSI, Bollinger Bands and Moving Averages.

Once you are familiar with creating basic alerts you can use timetotrade's advanced features to customise your alerts to suit you. You can build compound alerts containing multiple trigger conditions against price and multiple technical indicators; for example: you could set up rule that will trigger an alert to be sent to you when the share price falls below a defined value followed by the stochastic increasing above 20 and a positive MACD crossover.

You can also edit the alert message you will receive and you can specify where particular alerts are to be sent - to your email and/or mobile phone or PDA.

Please Note: When creating a MACD alert, consider the Interval that you are using. If for example you select a 1-day Interval, your alert will be based on the end of day close price, and therefore you will not be notified until the market has closed. If alternatively you select a 1 hour Interval then your alert will be checked every hour during market hours, and if your MACD condition is met at the close of the hour, you will receive an alert.
