The Knowledge: An 'Interim' dividend, is a dividend that is distributed before year earnings are calculated, typically paid mid year or quarterly.

Companies in the UK tend to make two dividend payments per year; an 'interim' and 'final' dividend payment, with the interim dividend typically the smaller of the two. In the USA, a dividend is usually paid quarterly.
