How to Create Bollinger Band Alerts
To create an alert, go to the timetotrade CHARTS page >> , and enter the ticker symbol for the stock or currency pair you wish to follow. This will take you to the chart / alert creation page. The system is defaulted to show the Price chart with a MACD chart below, but once you have set up a timetotrade account you can select your own default settings.
On timetotrade's Bollinger Bands Charts, the Upper Bollinger Band is a red line and the flourescent green line represents the Lower Bollinger Band.
You can adjust the default period and deviation parameter values to find the best fit between price movement and the Bollinger Band indicators to suit you.
To the right hand side of timetotrade's price and technical charts are sets of "Alert Trigger Buttons":
To create a Bollinger Band alert, just click on the Alert Trigger Buttons to the right hand side of the Bollinger Bands chart. There are no programming languages to learn, no macros or complex forumulas for you to write. Just click a button, enter your parameters, "add the trigger" and "activate" and your alert is created. Simple!
There are four types of Bollinger Band Alert Triggers available on the timetotrade system, each of which will notify you if the price crosses above or below either the Upper or Lower Bollinger Band.
| Price Crossing Upper Bollinger Band (Positive) Click this trigger button to create alerts to notify you when the price crosses above the Upper Bollinger Band
|
| Price Crossing Upper Bollinger Band (Negative) Click this trigger button to create alerts to notify you when the price falls below the Upper Bollinger Band
|
| Price Crossing Lower Bollinger Band (Positive) Click this trigger button to create alerts to notify you when the price rises above the Lower Bollinger Band
|
| Price Crossing Lower Bollinger Band (Negative) Click this trigger button to create alerts to notify you when the price falls below the Lower Bollinger Band

Upper Bollinger Band Alerts
To create an alert that will be triggered when the price (dark green line) rises above the Upper Bollinger Band (red line):
Step 1: Click the "new trigger when price rises above the upper bollinger band" trigger button, as shown below:
The alert conditon will then appear in the "Alert Creation" box on the right hand sisde of the chart page.
Step 2: Enter the alert message you wish to receive
Step 3: Click the "activate" button.
And that's it! Your alert is set up. It really is that simple.
The next time the price crosses the Upper Bollinger Band you will be notified by an alert sent to your email, instant messanger or cell phone.
You customise the alerts to suit you: for example you can edit the alert message you will receive, decide how you would like to be notified and which email and/or mobile phone you would like the alert sent to.
Lower Bollinger Band Alerts
To create an alert that will be triggered and notify you when the price falls below the Lower Bollinger Band (flourescent green line), just click the "Lower Bollinger Band" Trigger button, customise and activate the alert as discussed above.
The next time the price crosses the Lower Bollinger Band, you will receive an alert to your email, instant messanger or cell phone.
Adjusting the Parameters
You can adjust the Bollinger Bands standard deviations and period by changing the Bollinger Bands deviations and period variables to suit.
To change the standard deviation or period parameters enter your preferred values into the parameter text box, then press the "refresh" button to update the charts.
To save your settings, click on the 'set default' button at the bottom of the screen.
Multi-Condition Alerts
timetotrade can also be used to create alerts on Price and Volume as well as the technical indicators: Stochastic, RSI, MACD and Moving Averages.
Once you are familiar with creating basic alerts you can use timetotrade's advanced features to customise your alerts to suit you. You can build compound alerts containing multiple trigger conditions against price and multiple technical indicators; for example:
you could set up rule that will trigger an alert to be sent to you when the share price falls below a defined value followed by the stochastic increasing above 20 and a positive MACD crossover.
You can also edit the alert message you will receive and you can specify where particular alerts are to be sent - to your email and/or mobile phone or PDA.
